Frankenstein Unbound
Aldiss, Brian
Date finished: 1995-10-02
Unlike most of Aldiss' books that I've read, I actually liked this one. However, the conclusion is unsatisfying; the book-jacket's promises of "Bodenland finds and fulfils his mission" is belied. While Bodenland, the protagonist, does destroy the monster in the end, the reason behind all this -- the timeslips, the fictional characters made real -- is never made clear. In the end the book comes off as an interesting conceit mingling history and fiction, but little more than that.
