Deception at Wikipedia

A Wikipedia editor constructed an elaborate fake identity as a tenured professor; here's a summary and links to various commentaries.

What's startling is the reaction from Jimmy Wales: "I regard it as a pseudonym and I don’t really have a problem with it." Huh? Someone carries out a systematic deception to create a persona that goes far beyond just a fictitious name, and then uses this fake persona to buttress the correctness of his edits. And Wales doesn't "really have a problem" with this?
